ej’s voice cast [ episode 6 / Busy week]

**Introduction:**

Hello, ej here, and welcome to ej’s voice cast, the podcast that takes you on my journey of becoming a voice over artist.

**Opening Segment:**

Finally got to a developer meetup only to be the single visitor.

**Transition to Main Content:**

**Main Content:**

Myself and Walter, the group creator, had a great conversation. I learned a lot and have a way forward that may create a niche for myself that can cover so many different areas.

Create a youtube channel that I can use to do 1 to 2 minute explainer videos for indie developers products like manga, comics, and games. Apparently there are many budding artist/creative types that have content they want to put out but aren’t comfortable doing it themselves and don’t have large studio backing. I can become the middleman and give voice to their creations so people can find this content.

During the meetup I mentioned getting my Intellectual Property (IP) under a copyright and was surprised when he said no you're better off Branding yourself. Create a Brand and protect that because you're far more likely to catch someone poaching your IP because your fan base, provided you have enough people subscribing to you, will see it showing up where it’s not normally appearing. He mentioned a few instances of this and I’ll be doing some research on the pros and cons of one or both methods.

I did a Branding vs Copyright review and actually went to the United States Patent & TradeMark Office (USPTO) to submit a TradeMark. There was a nice tutorial on how to accomplish this as they changed the process recently. It was very easy to submit; however, there is a lot of work before you start filling out paperwork. You will need to do research to see if the name or whatever you are TradeMarking is already owned by someone else. I was lucky and what I put in for wasn’t/isn’t owned by anyone. I recommend watching the videos first and understand what your getting into. You can hire an attorney to help out but be aware that there are some scammers out there pretending to be helpful. You’ll want to setup an ID.Me account and probably an Okta account to verify your identity. If you don’t have one do that before you start USPTO account creation as it can take time especially if your overseas and don’t have a US Phone number. The cost starts at $250.00 and goes up to file and it’s NON REFUNDABLE. Even if you don’t get the approval you won’t get back the cost to file because it covers the cost of the work that the USPTO does.

I mentioned in one of my podcasts earlyon that Ali Abdaal has a Part Time Youtuber Academy or PTYA. The cost then was $995.00 for months today it was $885.00. I went with the $1.00 version that has 4 hours of getting started information. So far worth the $1.00 investment. I’m at 40% completion at.

I have another shortlist posted putting me at 5. This was interesting as I got shortlisted before the client apparently listened to the auditions.
