ej's voice over journey
My journey into the world art of Voice Over. I've begun learning how to use my voice to entertain and inform listeners. Since I just started I might as well use my voice to inform others of my path. Who knows, what I have to say may help someone else interested in this art avoid mistakes and have a smoother entry.

**[Podcast Title]**
ej’s voice cast [TK episode number 13 / episode title scammy things]
**Introduction:**
Hello, ej here, and welcome to ej’s voice cast, the podcast that takes you on my journey of becoming a voice over artist.
**Opening Segment:**
[TK Hook or interesting fact related to the topic]
**Transition to Main Content:**
**Main Content:**
- [Segment 1: what’s been happening ]
Well I completed my Fiverr account some time ago and what do you know I attracted a possible scammer. I’ll never know because a family thing came up and I had to drop the issue quickly to take care of it. After that I got a post on Voices that looked almost promising. Yes, I said it was almost promising. When trying to initiate followup contact the link failed and then the posting was withdrawn. I contacted voices and they confirmed that it was a suspected scam. I’m used to spotting phishing scams and such but these were really good. Someone paid attention to detail but I did catch one telltale sign in the company name. It spelled one way in the email address and another in the return address. The company appeared to exist but when I checked with my group in voices on demand they hadn’t heard of the company and felt it was scammy. So enough on that, there is some other news that isn’t bad.
**Transitions:**
- [Segment 2: Getting technical support ]
- [TK Transition to personal story or example Phrase]
I posted a question with my FB group asking how others got feedback on how their recordings sounded. I got a helpful reply that pointed me toward a well known person in the field of Voice Talents by the name of Uncle Roy Yokelson. He accepts requests from folks and provides feedback to them after listening to a demo of their home studio recordings. I have an appointment with him soon and already provided my demo. This way I can tell if it’s my voice or my tech or even a bit of both that needs work.
- [Segment 3: Accent Coach]
I have an accent coach now. I’ve done 3 classes so far. The first two were for a Southern accent and I’ve now switched up to do an Australian accent. The Southern accent is way easier for me as I’ve been exposed to it my entire life since my parents and extended family are from the Southern US. My coach, Sammi Grant, asked if I wanted to try a different one so as to not get to bogged down with one and give me time to switch gears, practice the Southern accent on my own while learning another that was very much NOT a Southern accent. So I picked Australian as I’m not able to tell the difference between Australian and New Zealand accents. My homework is to listen to native Australian accents as much as possible. So that means picking some Australian TV shows and programs off of Youtube with actors who don’t have the US language influence. I’ve got a show picked out. I just need to find episodes and then start listening.
- [Segment 3: Current possible gig ]
I got a private invite from the Voices Managed Services Team to participate in a job. It’s a research gig AM2500 TTS Research. I did the audition and submitted the required information plus a raw WAV file. The gig is long term with 1 to 3 hour reads. Hopefully I’ll get more info. I also hope my time away in early June, going to Las Vegas for the Cisco Live event won’t be a problem.
- [Segment 4: Pointers from Voices]
So Voices provided me with some information on how to get more views. They noticed my profile wasn’t really completed and requires attention. I need to add more demos to cover the areas of VO that I tagged in my profile. To showcase my accents and the types of reads I’ll be doing. I got a listing of what to look at and change.
- [Segment 4: ej the Xplainer youtube channel]
So the Discord group I joined is the first place I mentioned my youtube explainer channel and one person showed interest but their project isn’t ready yet. Another new person joined, Jamie Joe, who’s link I shall drop in the show notes below. Jamie checked out the site and encouraged me to keep going. I also dropped the link to a gamer friend who checked it out and said the same. Both subscribed to the channel so that’s something. I’ve posted more content to the channel and I am making some additions so I can post better video content. My current setup only captures my game play in 480p and I would like at least 1080p. I purchased a capture card from Elgato, the 4k X, to fix this. After that I started checking out monitors. My current one isn’t broken but is 7 years old. After some checking I found a monitor that is rated for what I want, has multiple connections, 2 HDMI, 1 DisplayPort and one mini display port.
This should allow me to connect up my PS5, my gaming PC, my work laptop and share the screen with my iMac. Now I can, hopefully, remove that KVM switch and nightmare of cables. I need to make sure that I can connect my keyboard up so that I can connect to the work laptop and gaming PC without manually swapping cables around.
The capture card will allow me to record gameplay video and audio provided I hook up properly. Thanks to Midnight Man’s, added to the show notes of course, video, not just on how to set up your audio normally but how to set up the audio via HDMI connections. That requires a separate mic if you wish to use a Bluetooth headset, record commentary and the chat between you and your teammates while playing.
**Personal Story or Example:**
- [TK Share a personal story or example]
**Expert Insight or Quote:**
- [TK Include an expert insight or quote Share wisdom or perspective from an expert in the field.]
**Transition to Conclusion:**
That finishes this episode
- [Summary of Key Points]
[TK Summarize the main takeaways from the episode.]
I guess the main takeaways here are keep pushing forward in your endeavors, find a community and reach out for support and don’t be in a rush.
- [Closing Words]
As always feedback and subscriptions are welcomed.
The links are at the bottom of these show notes.
If you have advice or a suggestion please share.
