**[Podcast Title]**

ej’s voice cast [TK episode number 14 / episode title Too much on my plate]

**Introduction:**

Hello, ej here, and welcome to ej’s voice cast, the podcast that takes you on my journey of becoming a voice over artist.

**Opening Segment:**

[Am I trying to do too much at once?]

**Transition to Main Content:**

**Main Content:**

- [Segment 1: what’s been happening ]

It’s been a minute since I last posted. The reason is I had to go to Las Vegas for a week for Cisco Live. For those unaware of Cisco Live this is an annual gathering of Network nerds. They tend to have 3, Cisco being one of the leading companies in the field of Computer Networks providing Hardware and Software to get those 1’s and 0’s from point A to Z and beyond. One is in the US somewhere, this year and last was LV. The next one is in Australia this December and one was/is in Amsterdam.

Before that I took a quick class with Uncle Roy Yokelson. He schooled me on what I need to pay attention to with my room treatment, recording and editing skills. I purchased one of the pre-recorded webinar’s on how to use Audacity. It’s about 2 hours long and some information I learned already but there’s other information that’s useful to me. I haven’t completed it yet as it’s 2 hours long and I’m taking it chunk by chunk. Learn something, practice it and learn something else. I’ve finally learned what punch and roll is and I’ve used it in the past but not extensively. Punch and Roll simply means you have recorded a track. You may not like something in that track, mouth noise, sneezing, washing machine etc… Find that section and isolate it in the track. Record that section on another track then cut and paste it into the original track. Another way is using labels within Audacity which I shall practice and see which one works for me.

**Transitions:**

- [Segment 2: Getting technical support ]

- [Tidbits in Audacity]

So one of the things I had set up in Audacity were shortcuts. I didn’t dive in extensively but within the webinar I was provided with a refresher that gave me pointers on how to utilize shortcuts to my advantage. I set up ones to zoom in and out of sections of tracks using just one button.  I also found a way to move between multiple tracks silencing the others.Plenty of tools to help one build clean tracks

- [Segment 3: clean tracks to start with]

Speaking of clean tracks I revisited, based off of the webinar, my settings on Audacity. I reset my microphone gain level so I come in a bit louder and closer to -6dB based on my normal voice and not being loud. So playback now resides at -6 to -4 and I’m staying out of the red. Now I can hear all those annoying mouth noises and clicks. I went back to adding plugins and have incorporated a DeEsser to remove annoying ‘s’' sounds and a Declicker to get rid of pop and such that show up in the recording. This is going to take some time to learn. I’ve run it but not seeing any change in the final product for the declicker plugin. I think the levels are right, just not able to see a clean output. It’ as if nothing is happening to the track.

- [Segment 3: Accent coaching ]

On the accent front I’m still wrestling with the Australian accent. I understand what I’m supposed to do and can create an accent but it’s not consistent. So some of my words sound like an American Southern accent and others sound like an Australian accent. More work is needed and you will probably hear me practicing it in this podcast.

- [Segment 4: ej the Xplainer youtube channel]

I’m behind on my Xplainer video postings. The new D2 season dropped and I’ve completed the campaign. I got that capture card and pro link cable to record. I need to revisit the setup because I record gameplay and you can hear my teammates on the recording but you can’t hear me. I think I need to add another Mic Mixer for the Wave XLR within the OBS application. I really would like to try the HDMI method so I don’t have that capture link cable dangling around.
