ej's voice over journey
My journey into the world art of Voice Over. I've begun learning how to use my voice to entertain and inform listeners. Since I just started I might as well use my voice to inform others of my path. Who knows, what I have to say may help someone else interested in this art avoid mistakes and have a smoother entry.

EJ no Voice Cast [TK episode 20 / Updated my gear ]
**Main Content:**
[Segment 1: New Gear… again and wow what a difference]
Wow what a difference between my Elgato setup and the new one using the Rode NT1a and Focusrite Vocaster One. My recordings are now easier to clean up and remove that annoying AC sound in the background even when the AC isn’t on. My take on that is the gain is causing it but no matter what I did I couldn’t remove that sound with Elgato. Now with the new setup, still using Audacity same as before, I’m able to remove it using Noise reduction only. Applying the extra settings of Noise Gate caused more issues and took the warmth out of my voice. I’m still playing around with the setup to see what I can do and should do to use it for VO and Podcasting. I don’t want to put a lot of processing on my VO auditions but don’t mind doing that for podcasts so I can get the best sound. I started using the macro functions so that I can apply, with one click, the effects I need to get my podcast sounding professional.
With all this going on I’m trying to get the right sound with minimal treatment of the room. I still have the yoga mat on the desk, that’s never leaving, and my makeshift enclosure using moving blankets is still up. It’s annoying to have it up but I don’t really want to stick foam on the ceiling because it’s paper and may tear if/when removed. I may revisit that later and wind up doing that but for now I’ll just keep things as they are.
[2: Upcoming events ]
My upcoming event is an online meetup called BTS starting 9pm Sept 8th and ending 1 AM Sept 9th. I’m pretty sure I’ll tap out before midnight but we shall see. There are at least 3 VO training classes and 3 business style classes like marketing strategies and branding.
I’m still also going over the podmatch pdf with links to the podcasting made simple information.
[Segment 3:request for a track]
A friend showed me a meme on Dune where a person is saying Cheeseburger, Hamburger, Whopper and BigMac. It’s recorded with a warbling sound and sounds pretty funny matched up with the dialogue. He said he would pay me $10.00, hahaha. It might be fun to do it just to see how it turns out and what my new Vocaster software plus Audacity offer in an attempt to do that.
[Segment 4:speaking of tracks]
I did my first audition with my new setup and it came out very nice. I think there’s a hint of background noise and it sounds a bit “thick” but that will just take some time to find the right levels and then I should be fine.
