1. Segment 1: [Apologise]

  • Introduction to Segment:*
  • Content:*

I apologize for not posting more often but I don’t want to bore you with a podcast post that doesn’t really have much in the way of VO information since that’s what this podcast is about. I do have other things going on like figuring out my YouTube channel for MotoVlogging and Explainer videos but I’m not sure if that fits here. Plus I’m working full time and as an IT person that can mean I’m working some nights and some weekends. Like this up coming week. Any way just want to let you know I’ve not forgotten about you folks. Thanks for listening.

2. Segment 2: [CCC]

  • Introduction to Segment:*
  • ej: "Another P2P site"
  • Content:*

I found another site, Casting Call Club or CCC. I’ve heard of it before but never went to the site until after I joined a discord channel. The Discord channel is called VA Treehouse. It has a section called Casting Club which lists different projects requiring VO Talent as well as writers, animators and editors. Also this Discord channel is affiliated, so it would seem, with the Casting Call Club website. You can find auditions in the discord channel that are posted on the site and even upload auditions to the CCC site or to the Discord channel. I’ve uploaded at least 2 on the discord channel and 2 or 3 on the CCC site. That site, by far, is the lowest cost and the person running it dropped some knowledge. He called out a few of the P2P sites and laid out ownership of those sites. Traced them back to basically one company that runs them all. I’m not surprised that one company is monopolizing a large section of the field of VO but it’s still always a let down when you think about it. The sites usually have tiered system where you pay more you get access to more stuff like access to early audition postings, ability to track analytics and so on. Some sites take it a bit further and if you pay more then you get preferential treatment and apparently your auditions get weighted better or pushed to the top of the list so you get a better chance at getting a gig.

As for the discord channel the auditions are across the board of the gaming and entertainment areas. What I mean is that I auditioned as a voice for an online soccer team mgt game. When you pick something or complete a task you get a card and a one-liner is associated with that card and the character representation of that card. I was able to use any voice I wanted per 3 lines. I’m still learning how to create characters that are unique.

3. Segment 3: [ CCC & Discord auditions]

  • Introduction to Segment:*
  • ej: "discord VA Treehouse."
  • Content:*

It’s been nice doing auditions for folks on the discord, you simply record and upload either via your phone or in your studio. You are pretty much texting with the person you’re recording for and the other folks on the channel can listen and provide feedback on your submissions. Lots of positive and constructive feedback and I see sharing of ideas and advice in the business being provided.
