Segment 1:[ catching up / atarashi nyusuu ]
As I said in my last podcast I had a cold and that set me back on recording episode 10. Lots of things happened and one is working with my coach on getting my demo recorded. I said in the last episode that I had created some characters and scripts for demos. I need to learn who the characters are that shall read these scripts. I’ll have to have a name, attitude, and physical description of these characters. One shall read a travel commercial style script, another does a historical read, and there is an in show host a mystery and a tutorial read. Each person reading shouldn’t sound like any of the others.

Zenbu no “kyarakutaaa” wa namae toka, , “seikaku” toka, gaiken no tokuchoo mo nakereba ikemasen .
Segment 2: [Great session / Sugoi session ]
Today’s coaching session was great. I did some homework for character development for my characters that I created and mentioned in my other podcast. What I did was to look at some of the VA, presenters and hosts from the past. Rod Serling, Sam Elliot, of course, and Don Lafontaine. Don Lafontaine wasn’t an actor but if you saw any movie trailers in the 1970’s to 1990’s you heard his voice. The iconic “In A World” tag line was his. I chose his delivery style, not his voice, and used that in my mystery demo. My coach was very happy with my delivery but as coaches are supposed to do, still had comments to drop to make my delivery even better. I am very happy because I know where to go. My travel narration got better and I got more helpful direction on where I need to go. My historical narration was also better and helpful critique was provided.
Kyoo no “coaching session” wa sugokatta desu. Kyaractor o motto komakaku tsukuru koto ga shukudai ni narimashita. Terebi bangumi hosto wa Rod Serling toka, actor Sam Elliot toka Seiyuu Don Lafontaine no stiru o benkyo shimashita. Don Lafontaine san wa hosto ja nakute seiyuu deshita. Don san ga yuume nano wa “eiga no yokokuhen” desu, “In a world” ga yume desu. Watashi no odishion no koto o sensei wa yorokonde mashita, demo sesnseiwa kotsu o watashi ni oshiete kuremashita.
It’s a good thing I recorded this session but unfortunately I didn’t record it with Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software. There’s lots of good info in this session to help me navigate the Pay to Play sites and my coach is going to help me out with that plus provide me with videos on how to accomplish that. She also dropped some websites on me where I can start auditioning for mystery type novel reads for audiobooks.
Session o Rykodo shimashita demo audacity ga tsukunakkatan deshita, zoom dake desu. Motto ii shigoto o eru tame ni, sesnei wa pay to play uebsito no shikata o oshiete kuremasu. Ima no ACX toka, Goodnovel samazawa wa uebsito de misuterii shousetsu odiobukkuk odishin imasu.
Continuing with my homework I got some links from her so I can view other actors and VA’s to get an idea of how to deliver reads. Folks like Kieth David, James Earl Jones (no relation), and others who have a similar baritone like myself. She’s helping me pull out of my shell, if you will, and move from reading a copy to believing the story and becoming the story. Finally I’m ready to create my demo.
Koe no bariton arimasu, soshite hoka no yakusha ga mo arimasu. Tatoeba Kieth David, James Earl Jones. Are wa yakusha, baritone arimasu. Sensei wa boku ga kara o yabute. Yatto sensei ga demo o hajimate mo daijobu to ittekuremashita.
Segment 3: [ Demo time / ]
So it’s time to schedule my demo session. I’ve been working with an audio engineer introduced to me by my coach. This is the person she uses when doing a demo for her students and herself. I’ve been working with him to get my three mic’s dialed in and decide which ones of the 3 I should keep.
Boku no demo no nittei o kimeru jiki ni narimasu. Sensei ga boku ni “odio engineer” o shokai shite kuremashita audio engineer no namae wa Roman san desu. Roman san wa sensei to seito no demo o tsukuru toki tsukaimasu. Microphone o mitsu atte, Roman san ni dore o keepu shitara ii ka kikimashita. Roman san wa zenbu no oto o kikimashita, soshite zenbu keepu shita hoga ii tte iimashita.
I submitted my evaluation recordings and with that one submission he helped get my interface dialed in better including fixing an issue with one of my mics. That was one session, he asked me to drop another set of tracks with all three mics and I’m waiting for the results now. One of the first things to come out of the first round was a 1 hour session where he helped me review my booth setup.
Roman san ga boku no odio intafesu to maiku mo mondai naoshimasu. Roman san wa ato de mitsu maiku ga atarashi ryokodo o hoshi deshita ga. Ima boku wa kotai ga matte imasu.
I’ve made one change which is to double up on my sound blankets to fix my noise floor issue. The good part is I tossed out the foam pads I was using which were annoying and I cleaned out some storage space. I can now put my sound blankets away and reclaim some space. Still some more steps to take to really reduce my noise floor but I’m getting there.
Noizu furō no mondai o naosu tame ni, saundo buranketto o nibai ni shimashita. Kore de, jama datta fōmu paddo o sutete, sutōrēji o seiri dekita no wa yokatta desu. Saundo buranketto o katazukete, supēsu o torimodosu koto ga dekimasu. Noizu furō o hontō ni sageru ni wa mada suuteppu hitsuyō desu ga, chigazuite kite imasu.
