Welcome to EJ’s voice over journey where the mic is always on and the learning never stops.
I'm EJ, a voice actor journeying through the world of voiceover — from auditions and coaching to client work. Whether you’re just starting out on your voice acting path or already deep into the journey, this podcast shares real experiences, lessons, laughs, and challenges straight from inside the booth. Let’s bring scripts to life — together — with heart and soul!"**

Segment 1:[  Picked up a gig /   ]

I got a gig the other day. I was very surprised as I auditioned for several projects and about 30 minutes later I got a post saying I got the job. The client wanted a quickish turn around. I got it done and posted and about 30 minutes after the post was uploaded the client reviewed and approved the work.

Jones san, shigoto ga arimasu. Boku wa bikurishimashita. Demo 24 jikaninai de teishutsu shite hoshii to iwareta node hayaku yarimashita. Sonotoki, Untenmenkyo centa kara uchi kairimashita. Narration o rokuon shimashita. 2 jikan yarimashita.

With Voices.com website the money is dropped into an escrow like account that is held for 30 or more days before being transferred to your designated bank account. Of course Voices.com takes their cut, which can be substantial; However this person now knows what my product is like and they may be willing to engage without the use of the site and we can create a working relationship so I don’t have to worry about this.

Tsugi ni kono kuraian-to ga nareshon o hitsuyo to suru toki, boku wa risuto no saijou-i ni iru kamoshiremasen.

The flip side is a person working the long con. Get you comfortable and then you work outside of the system and they grab your information. As long as I maintain my alert status with any business dealings I should be fine.

Gyaku ni, nagai jikan o kakete shin-you o sasete kara, shisutemu no soto de yaritori o sasete kojin jouhou o nusumou to suru sagi mo arimasu.

Segment 2: [ Tools  /  ]

After doing my auditions the other day I jumped on the application called iZotop RX 11. My engineer was telling me how great a tool this is for editing and mastering my recordings. It’s not the easiest software to get started. I haven’t found many tutorials for beginners like many other DAW’s have. I do need to connect with my engineer and see when he has a class on the software so I can learn how to use it properly.

kono aida, odishon ga owarimashita, sore kara atarashi appu namae wa iZotop RX11 de renshu shimashita . iZotope appu no henshuu sofuto ga sugoi desu. Saisho Zotope RX 11 chotto kantan ji nakattadesu.  iZotope Kaisha no Youtube bideo o mimashita. Bideo no setsume wa benri desu demo sensei ga hoshi desu. Takusan bideo wa arimasen, soshite henshuu senmonkaRoman san ga hitsuyoo desu.

I did some searching and found a link to iZotope that does some pretty good explaining for folks who don’t have an understanding of how to use the software. It covers more than just using it for Voice Acting but music, mastering, podcast recordings and location recordings using your phone.  I tested one of the effects, VEA, on a recording I did for a character's script. It did a pretty good job on cleaning up the track.

Noizu ga kirei ni natte, kanari ii kanji ni shiagarimashita.

Segment 3: [ class  /  ]

One of the things I need to do is continue creating characters. The one I am currently working on is for an Investigator. It's a Noir type character. Using the Noir genre from the 1940’s through 1950’s I created a 1960’s Investigator named Lincoln Thurgood West.

Boku wa atarashi Kyarakutaa de sousaku shinakereba narimasen. Kyarakutaa ga namae Lincoln Thurgood West  desu.

I’ve completed the character sheet, script and have recorded some dialogue. This process helps me get into the character and give them some permanence. This all came about from our homework for this week. I created another character to read the script as an evening Jazz DJ for a radio station. I thought my reading was good; however, one of my classmates commented on the read.

Kyarakutaa sheet wa owarimashita. Chisai Daihon de/o kakaremashita.  (this section below is AI generated)

Kore wa subete konshuu no shukudai kara hajimari-mashita. Radio kyoku no yube no jazu DJ to shite daihon o yomu tame ni, mou hitori no kyarakutaa o sousaku shimashita. Jibun no yomi wa ii to omoi-mashita ga, doukyuusei no hitori kara fuidobakku o morai-mashita.

It was a positive review; however, instead of it registering as a Jazz DJ style voice she pretty much felt it was a detective type of character. So I thanked her for the review and shifted gears creating this new character. I’ll have to revisit the Jazz DJ character and work on that. I am disappointed that my reading came off differently than I intended but  there was some good information in the feedback.

Jibun no yomi ga ito shita mono to wa chigatte kikoeta no wa zannen desu ga, moratta fuidobakku ni wa ii jouhou ga takusan arimashita.

Segment 4: [ Agencies /  ]

I ran into a former coworker. I spoke about my Voice Acting while catching up and he asked if I had attended any of the Talent/Modeling try outs. I of course had not and he got me some links to a few agencies. I submitted to one today and I’ll just wait and see what happens. The process was easy, answering a few questions, uploading some demo files and a list of whatever work I’ve done.

Senshu wa moto douryou aimashita. Seiyuu naraimasu o hanahimashita. Konshu, sono uebusaito no hitotsu o mite mimashita.  Online form nikinyuu shite, henji o matte imasu.

That’s all for now, I’ll keep you all updated on my progress.
